NULM
National Urban Livelihood Mission or NULM was introduced by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation (MHUPA) on 24th September, 2013. This mission emphasizes on the urban poor households by their reducing poverty and vulnerability. This mission enables poor people to have access of gainful self or skilled-ware employment opportunities so that improvement could be brought in their livelihoods. The improvement is brought by building strong level institutions for the poor and providing them with shelters equipped with essential services. Apart from this, this mission also concentrates on addressing the living conditions of the urban street vendors by giving them access to suitable spaces, social security, institutional credit and skills for emerging market opportunities. The NULM is creating opportunities for the poor people by skill development that helps them to create market-based employment and setting up self-employment venture
The main objectives of NULM are mentioned below :
- Employment through Skills Training and Placement (EST&P) :
Under this objective, EST&P aims to give skill training to the urban poor. It helps them to set up a self-employment venture for themselves or secure a salaried employment. In this, no minimum or maximum qualification requirement is necessary for the selection of beneficiaries.
- Self-Employment Programme (SEP) :
In this programme, financial assistance is provided to individuals/groups for setting up ventures/micro-enterprises. Apart from financial support, technology, marketing and consultancy support is also provided.
- Schemes of Shelters for Urban Homeless :
The main objective of this scheme is to provide shelters that are installed with basic necessities to the urban homeless. Giving permanent all-weather 24x7 shelters, this scheme ensure people have sanitation, electricity and kitchen.
- Innovative & Special Projects :
Under this scheme, promotion of novel initiatives is focused on. These projects ensure provision of support infrastructure, technology and marketing.
